The first scene of Act III allows us to see Richard put his plan to usurp the throne in motion. It seems as though Richard’s plan centers on Hastings. While Richard has the young prince under his control, he still needs the younger brother who has taken sanctuary with his mother. Now it’s not Richard who convinces the Cardinal and Hastings to acquire the young Duke of York, but rather Buckingham who does all the talking: why?
