At this point Socrates wants to draw a distinction between having learned and having believed, between learning and belief. In addition, he distinguishes between false beliefs and true beliefs, what we might call false opinion and true opinion. He goes on to highlight that this distinction between the false and the true does not hold in the case of knowledge. Knowledge by definition must be true.
